AP English Independent Reading List
Click on the title of any of the following books to read more about them at Amazon.com.
IntroductionÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊ
You will succeed in the class and on the AP exam if you read voraciously during the course of the year. What you read matters as much as how you read; thus the list below includes texts which will challenge you. All the books listed below meet the College BoardÕs standards for Òworks of equal merit.Ó In addition to the titles listed here, you may read those titles from the summer reading list that you did not choose to read; moreover, you may ask to substitute a different book by the same author if you prefer (i.e., you can read The MoorÕs Last Sigh if you already read RushdieÕs MidnightÕs Children).Ê Consult your teacher before making a substitution.
ReadingsÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊ
Read at least five of the following books, three during the fall semester and two during the spring. Your second book in the spring and your essay will be due before the AP Exam in May. You must read one book and write the required paper each grading period prior to taking the AP test in May.
