Honors & AP Classes

I have taught honors or AP English classes for more than fifteen years. Most recently, I was appointed to the AP Course and Exam Review Commission, a position that gives me a new and deeper appreciation of the AP program in general and the Literature and Composition/Language and Composition courses in particular. This site and the resources included here, however, have no connection to any of that work, nor is my work here affiliated in any way with the College Board or AP work I am doing as a member of that commission. I want only to share with you those materials and resources I find helpful when teaching my own AP Literature and Composition classes. Those interested can view my AP course syllabus, the one I submitted to the audit process and which was approved. I expect to add materials to this page over the next year, so keep checking back. I should add that my district has an open enrollment policy which allows any student who wishes to enroll in all AP courses.

Resources

  • College Board: AP Central
The most important resource of them all for AP Literature or Language teachers. This site functions as the clearinghouse for released exams, exam dates, instructional materials, and general information about the AP program and courses.
  • Web English Teacher's Resources
Web English Teacher offers up a rich collection of materials and links here for AP, honors, and IB teachers.
  • AP English Electronic Discussion Group (EDG)
AP Central offers Web-based threaded discussion groups for many AP courses and roles. This feature gives you the ability to post messages online to be viewed by the entire group. These types of discussion groups are sometimes referred to as "list serves." However, because AP Central does not use the LISTSERV® software, we call ours electronic discussion groups or EDGs. If you teach AP Lit or AP Language, this is a valuable resource.
